Gods and Goddesses In ancient Rome, they were mostly polytheistic. They had twelve major
gods. There were also numerous minor gods. The twelve major gods and goddesses were Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto, Minerva, Diana, Apollo, Venus, Ceres, Juno, Mars, Mercury, and Vulcan. Jupiter is also known as Zeus in Greek form, and rules over the skies. Neptune (Poseidon) is the god of the seas. Pluto (Hades), the god of death, rules the Underworld.
